SNA has a New Chairperson

Renowned Odissi dancer Sonal Mansigh has taken over as the chairperson of the Sangeet Natak Akademy (SNA), the National Academy of music, dance and drama. Govt. of India. The Delhi-based dancer has been directly appointed by the President of India A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.

“Amrutha Varshini” Sangeeta Vahini – the first radio channel in the country exclusively dedicated to classical music, both Hindustani and Carnatic, was launched on 26 Jan 2004, in Bangalore. Now art lovers can tune into FM 100.4 for classical music between 6pm – 10pm everyday.

She is making a film on Devadasis, about how liberated they were. “Devadasis were not religious but spiritual,” she says. The film is in Tamil with English subtitles. It is due for release in March 2004. Directed by Sharada Ramanathan, the film’s music is scored by Lalgudi Jayaraman and the choreography is by Saroj Khan. “Saroj Khan has recorded and redifined Bharatanatyam and I’m very happy with her work,” says Padmini Ravi……………….. Now this movie will surely be worth watching.

A disciple of Guru Smt. Jyothi Pattabhiram of Sadhana Sangama Dance Centre, Reshu presented her Bharatanatyam Rangapravesham on 9th November 2003 at ADA Rangamandira, J.C. Road, Bangalore.

Born on 26th September 1987, Reshu is the daughter of Smt. Rathna Ramaiah and Sri. T. Kemparamaiah. She was initiated into this classical art form of Bharatanatyam by her parents at the tender age of eight.

The talented Reshu joined Sadhana Sangama Dance Centre at the age of eight, since then Resheu has been trained and groomed by her Guru Smt. Jyothi Pattabhiram and has blossomed into an artist of great promise.

Even since, Reshu has been a very diligent aspirant of Bharatanatayam and has been a part of several programs of her dance centre. Reshu has secured distinction in the Bharatanatyam Senior Examinations conducted by the Govt. of Karnataka.

Reshu a first year PUC student of S. Nijalingappa College has the desire and dedication to evolve as a true artist and scale greater heights with the blessings, encouragement and support from her Guru, Parents and well wishers.
